Larry Doyle is a newspaper journalist who has fallen on hard times after he angers the Chicago police chief. Doyle gets involved with a young woman who has also fallen on hard time, Anne, and together the pair pose as a honeymooning couple taking a suite in a hotel. In a bid to raise some money to pay for their life together Doyle s his former newspaper editor and tells him he can find the mysterious gangster known as the Eel, which sets Doyle and Anne on a dangerous quest together.
